Ascension allows certain Gold Rarity Characters to advance their Fusion Levels beyond Fusion X to increase their strength. When acquiring a duplicate Gold Card, instead of receiving currency it can be combined with an Ascension Upgrade Card to Ascend the Character.
When a Character is Ascended for the first time, their Fusion Level is set to Fusion I, and their stats increase. Once a Character reaches Ascended Fusion V, they can perform a Brutality if using their Equipment Set. Only certain Gold Characters can be Ascended. Over time more Gold Characters will become eligible.

Energy is needed for Characters to participate in combat. Every Character has their own Energy that is consumed when they participate in combat. Some combat consumes more Energy than others. Energy is not required for combat in The Krypt and Faction War Survivor mode.
Energy recharges over time in characters background. Alternatively, when a Character’s Energy is empty, it can be fully recharged by spending Souls or watching an ad (if available). Alos, recharge time depend on characters fusions.

Fusion Level determines the overall power of many types of Cards, including Character, Kameo, Equipment, and Support Cards. Fusion Levels are increased by acquiring a duplicate Card.
When a Card is fused, its stats and Fusion Level increase. Most Cards have a max Fusion Level of 10 (Fusion X).
